The drawings in the Palimpsest Series are made by constructing low-relief assembleges on paper which is placed out-of-doors and exposed to rain and snow.  Frequently, the assembleges themselves are composed of materials which will stain the paper—various metals, woods and mineral ores, for example—-and sometimes dry pigments are used.  With this method I engage in a sort of collaboration with natural forces.  This collaboration allows for partial control of formal organization, while details of actual pigment dispersal rely on chance and accident.  Some of these drawings are further developed in the studio, others are considered complete upon retrieval from the environment.
